Betta Fish Ecosystem
Aquarium ecosystem???????????

Ok so i have a resonably sized tank with 5 betta girls and yes they are fine i’ve had em together for 6 months and i watch em day and night =) and i have 2 cory cats male and female and well we have a creek right next to my house and i was wondering if i could collect some pond life such as tadpoles and mosquito larvae for them to eat and replenish it every few weeks and even collect some guppies
would it be unhealthy for my bettas and cory cats? i want to do something fun and give my fish some exersize like i read in a book.

Buy live foods from your Local Fish Store, such as live brine shrimp, Daphnia, or blackworms. Catching live foods in the wild is not recommended, simply because the risk of exposing your fish to pollution, pathogens, and parasites is very high.

Why does my 1 gallon fish bowl get dirty so fast(betta fish)?

ok like 3 days after my betta fish bowl (water)gets dirty so fast, why? and i have another question why do i feel like it is real lonely and needs someone?lol

Because waste quickly builds up which also causes a bulid up in ammonia. That’s why getting a tank and filter helps out a lot.

When you have a betta in a bowl witout filtration, water changes should be done 3x a week just to keep the ammonia levels down which can become toxic to your fish.

And don’t worry its not lonely :) . Betta fish in the wild stake out their own territories and live alone and really dont prefer company. But if you wish to make it happier, maybe but it a decoration or two to hide in along with some plants.

How to thoroughly clean a betta fish bowl?

I am worried about my betta. He is very small and his eyes are bulgy. I feed him a lot, and I want to thoroughly clean his bowl just in case there is a lot of bacteria in there. I haven’t cleaned it in a while :( so I know I should. But I want to do a good job, and I don’t want to make him sicker. I don’t really have any bowl cleaner, or anything like that..

What temp. should the new water be? Where should I put him in the meantime? There are rocks and a small plant in his tank thing.

If he is in a bowl (which cannot be heated and gets dirty very fast), he will always be prone to diseases. Get him a tank (2.5 or more gallons, ideally) and a heater (and tank thermometer– ideally the temperature should be around the 78-80 degree area) and do regular water changes. (For instance, a 2.5 gallon needs a 100% change once a week. A bowl, honestly, needs to be changed and cleaned once every day or two, at least.) Dirty water and cold temperatures are the number one cause of disease in bettas, and they can easily be prevented by proper tank conditions.

How much are you feeding him? If you feed him too much, it will just contribute to the waste in his water and make him sick.
But yes, it sounds like he has popeye. Here is one article on it.
