OK, so i am going to get a 4 gallon tank for a Betta. The only fish in it is going to be one male Betta. My question is if i can use a filter for tanks up to 3 gallon?? will it really make THAT big of a difference?? i mean, i wont over-feed it, itll have a seperate airstone and heater, so like, can i get away with a 3 gallon filter in a 4 gallon tank??
im putting a filter in undoubtedley, but will the 4 gallon tank be ok witha 3 gallon heater?? i am thinking it will cut back on the current, and thats good.
It will be fine. Bettas like slow moving water anyways.

Betta Fish Aquarium Salt My Betta Fish’s Fins and Tail are torn… Will they heal?
My betta fish was attacked by another fish in my aquarium. I have isolated him into a 1 gallon tank [its all i have right now] with gravel and silk plants. I gave him new water treated with aquarium salt. He has damage to his pelvic fins, and his tail has torn in two [like a split] down the middle. Will his pelvic and tail fin heal? Do I need to give him any special medicine? I’m so sad and it upsets me to think of his predicament
He wasn’t eating for about an hours or so after I found him. Today he is eating and swimming around like normal.
Also, will his tail fin mend into one, or will it stay split and heal like that?
I checked today and it looks like his tail is getting shorter. I added MelaFix [or w/e with the Tea Tree stuff]
is something going wrong or is this shedding/melting away normal?
They will heal, but you will need to be vigilant to keep his water quality immaculate. Do partial water changes every other day. Use a good anti-bacterial med, melafix/bettafix are useless, use Myxazin by Waterlife. As long as you put the work in, he’ll heal, but NOT to his former glory, there will be some scarring.

They got almost to the length they had been before, I think he was a combtail/veiltail originally. He lived for a good year after his ordeal (he was moved out of that tank and into a proper tank shortly after these pics were taken).
