Sick Betta Fish Help
can an ordinary vet help me with my sick betta fish?

i do not know where to go to get my fish checked out if he has swim bladder. can i go to an ordinary vet or do i have to go to a spacial vet doctor. i have 3 vets around my area but im not sure if they can help me. do you go to local vet or a special vet doctor?

Call around. Some vets will work on fish and reptiles, especially larger one, but many do not.

A fish store is often free. Many times the owners or managers are very knowledgeable and can help you.

Swim Bladder is not necessarily a disease, it is more a symptom or secondary problem caused by something else going on. How are you housing the fish? How is your water quality? Is he bloated? What are you feeding him?

Many times it is just water quality and increasing water changes and filtration can help. Other times it is diet and feeding fiber rich foods like shelled peas can cure it. Some times it is a viral infection and will go away if the fish is healthy enough (again improved water quality will help). Sometimes a little salt in the water is all you need. Sometimes it is an internal bacteria problem and you just buy medicated fish foods (don’t need a prescription or anything).

Please give more details and fish experts should be able to tell you steps you can try to fix the problem before it gets too bad.
