Live Betta Fish Plants
Is it better to have live plants for a betta fish?

I have a betta fish in a 5 gallon tank with a bunch of artificial plants (I made sure that they aren’t going to snag on my betta’s tail) and basically I’m just wondering if my betta will be just fine with fake plants or if I should feel an urgency to get real plants.

There are all kinds of sharp edges and snags that you can’t really anticipate or see from a fishes perspective. Artificial plants can work, but if possible, avoid plastic ones. Instead, go for silk or some other kind of synthetic. Your LPS should have a selection of both kinds.

It’s not an urgency, but when you have an extra $5 lying around, go and get yourself a java fern. If your LPS doesn’t have them, I’ve seen many dealers online that offer guarantees on the plant. The more natural a setting you can provide for your betta the happier he/she is going to be.
