Dwarf Puffer or Anything else?
I am getting my first aquarium this week. Its a 6 gal Fluval Edge. I see Dwarf Puffers in the store and I think they’re awesome, I read some about them and now I’m conflicted. I was hoping to have a small community of fish in the tank, but that’s not possible with the puffer in their as well.
Is the personality and charm of the puffer enough to outweigh the pleasure of having multiple species of fish in the tank? Also, I’ve heard that the puffers require 50% water changes per week, is this a strict rule or more of a guideline? thanks.
i personally would not buy the fluval edge … fluval makes nice looking tanks that are not functional at all … i bought the fluval ebi and while it looks great, the design is horrendous … it is a tank designed and built for shrimp but the filter that comes with the tank sucks up baby shrimp … the lid is not solid so the shrimp can get out … and the background (has not happened to mine yet) can pop off and knock off the lid and light … when i bought my marineland 30 gallon kit including canopy, heater, filter, it was 10 dollars more than the fluval edge … you could have one dwarf puffer in the fluval edge … and to be honest, in six gallons you could not have a community of fish even if you did not get a dwarf puffer … you could have a betta … but the fluval edge is not really suitable for a betta as they breathe air and in the fluval tank there is only one small area in the middle for them to take air … puffers do need 50% water change … they are messy fish and will not eat anything off the substrate … in a larger tank you could have puffers and otos and shrimp but not in a fluval edge … if you like the look of the fluval edge you can also find unique modern looking tanks that would be more gallons … i bought a seamless rimless glass 21.5 gallon tank for 30 dollars …
