Female Betta Fish Compatibility

All Male or Female Mollies/Platies/Swordtails?

My boyfriend is buying me fish to go in a 12 gallon BiOrb tank (yes, I researched and 1 gallon per fish is acceptable, and there will be a heater) and it just so happened that the breeds I chose (mollies, platies, and swordtails) can all interbreed. I did a ton of research on the breeds and chose them because of their compatibility, and it turned out that they are too compatible, haha.

I was wondering if all males or all females would be a better idea. I was leaning toward males because many females can come home preggo, and all three breeds are known to be peaceful fish.

I would just really like a second opinion.

P.S. I have a male betta that I may or may not put in the aquarium with the mollies, platies, and swordtail. Would that be a good idea or bad one? I know that none of those breeds have long flowing fins, but as earlier, I would just like a second opinion.

Thank You!
I absolutely do not want to breed fish or get babies.

Mollies do not interbreed with Platys or Swordtails. Swordtails and Platys well certainly intermix, and if the fish are not wild-caught, it’s likely that your pet-store fish are already some sort of cross. All male Swordtails will be found to be a little too “scrappy” to be called peaceful. The male Betta would probably be O.K. if you left out the Swordtails.
