Dual Betta Fish Tanks
I have an algae problem in my fresh water tank, what fish should I buy?

My tank is 10 gallons. I have one male betta and 3 white clouds in the tank. I have a soft algae problem. But I don’t want to put algae-killer in the tank, because I have a decorative algae ball made of hair algae. I was thinking of putting two of the offspring from our albino corys (from our other tank) in there. Would the corys work? I was also considering a cherry shrimp, but I think the betta will try to eat it. I don’t want snails, because most snail breeds are dual gendered and that leads to snail population problems. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

With a ten gallon, you really only have one option. Get 2 or 3 otocinclus. Plecos and most other algae eaters will just be too big for a ten gallon, and corys don’t really eat algae. Ottos stay under 2 inches and eat a ton of algae, and in a tank with no aggressive fish they are usually fine kept by themselves. Throw that betta in the mix and you’re gonna need to keep at least 2 of them. They eat so much, a ten gallon probably wont be able to produce enough algae for them to completely survive on. Get some algae wafers to supplement their diet with. Guarantee they’ll have it clear of green or brown algae in less than a week. Hope this helps.
