Discus Fish Hiding
new discus ???????????????????

hi i have 28 gallon tank today i brought 2 baby discus and it is with gouramies cory cats and 1 upside down fish do i need to remove some of the fish and before that i was having angels in that tank before introducing discus into the tank i removed the discus and returned it back to the store is there any need for me to do the water changes ???? and i gave them bloodworms but they just ignored it and 1 of them is hiding behind the plants is it because it is newly introduced ????
ummmm now both of them are roaming around the tank in mid range together…………i read somewhere that discus shuld not be fed with bloodworms is it true

Remove the Gouramis and the upside-down catfish. The Corys are OK.

Is your tank planted ? Discus love planted tanks – it also brings out their natural color. There’s a school of thought that Discus should be kept in ‘Bare’ tanks as they are easier to keep clean. I feel that a planted tank is more natural and therefore less stressful for the fish.

With two discus (and 3-4 corys) a planted tank with good filtration, two 25% water changes a week are enough. However it is important to use soft water. I use 3/4 RO water and 1/4 normal water. You can also use some peat moss (in a stocking) and also some driftwood to make the water slightly acidic. Maintain the temperature around 29 degrees.

The best diet for discus is Tetra’s ‘Tetrabits’. Dont give them live bloodworms or worse still Tubifex worms – In fact avoid the freeze-dried versions also. Try some freeze dried shrimp/brine shrimp. They love homemade beefheart mix ( its takes some effort but its worth it) but give it very occasionally in small quantities because if left uneaten it will soil the water.

Hope this helps.
