Common Betta Fish Diseases
Is it possible for a Crowntail male Betta Fish to live on a diet of nothing but peas?

I have recently purchased a Betta fish and he refuses to eat pellets or flakes. I’ve been reading up on this issue and it is common. I tried feeding him peas, as you are supposed to do when they get swim-bladder disease, and he ate them right up. Would peas be okay for everyday feeding?
When you say brine shrimp, is it possible to make my own to feed him?

No. They are a carnivorous fish. Peas are a nice laxative for constipation issues (one of many causes of “swim-bladder disease”) but not a suitable diet.

Try blood worms and other meaty fish foods. Try some different betta food brands as well, some betta are just picky.

Also, temperature matters a lot. He needs tropical water to be healthy. They get lethargic and lose their appetite in cold water. Part of the reason they get the constipation issues is from too cold of water in addition to overfeeding.
