Betta Fish Vase

Betta fish freaking out!?

I just cleaned the vase he was in(it’s two gallons), I didn’t clean it with soap just warm water and a sponge. I put the water conditioner in it, and when I put him back he was freaking out and running into the pebbles at the bottom and he nearly died. I quickly got him out and placed him into a smaller container with water from my other betta fishes vase. He is doing fine now. I just wanna know what I did wrong? The female was fine after I cleaned her vase. I’m getting a 5-10 gallon tank with a filter soon, and I would really love to know what happened before I place him back into a tank.

Your tank is too small. Upgrade to a 5 or 10 gallon.
