my male betta looks like he needs a friend,not for mating,just some company,perhaps fish toys? he mopes help!!?
pleasehelp with any ideas ive only had the fish for acouple months
You said nothing about what your fish is in, but if you have one of those stupid ‘betta bowls’, there’s the reason.
A Betta kept in most ‘room temperature’ settings is feeling chilled and sluggish.
He does not need companions.
Bettas are happiest in tropical water, at a steady temperature of about 78-80 degrees. If you get a tank that is at least 2 gallons, you can get a 7.5 watt mini-heater. That will keep his water warm enough, and only kick in if the temp. gets too cool.
You could get a small filter, which would help improve the water quality. Use a low setting, as Bettas don’t like strong water currents.
Another advantage of the larger tank, is that you have more options for decorating it. Just remember, nothing sharp that could catch or rip your Betta’s fins.
When decorating the tank, remember to include a hiding-place or two. If your Betta feels like he can hide whenever he wants to, he will actually be much bolder.
If you show him a mirror, only do that for a few minutes, every week or so. He’ll feel like his territory has just been invaded.
