Betta Fish Swim Bladder Disorders
Betta Fish Swim Bladder Disorders

Betta help!!! ASAP!!!?
My betta fish has been floating sideways for a few days (perhaps 2 or 3), and i don’t know what is wrong with it. When I took it to Petsmart, none of the workers could tell me what was wrong with it either. My guess is the swim bladder disorder, or perhaps overfeeding? Any suggestions on how to treat him?
High nitrates have been associated with buoyancy problems. Change his water and keep changing it 1/3 per day for anything under 2 gallons (with anti-chlorine treatment, of course). Add a bit of salt to help resist osmotic stress of plain water. If this is really the problem, he’ll gradually right himself as he replaces N2, CO2 gases with more O2. If he starts to sink, lower his water level so he can still get to the surface to breathe with less exertion.
If it’s food, don’t feed him a day or two. Later, presoak his food a bit before feedings and feed greens. You can make your own food by chopping and crushing greens (don’t use a blender because of foaming) and mixing it with a bit of his regular food and gelatin; refrigerate and crumble in his water. You can freeze the rest as cubes in a plastic bag.
There are so many things that could be happening here, it’s hard to diagnose. But hopefully one of these or other Answers will help. Hope your little buddy gets better for you.
