Betta Fish Size
Betta Fish Size
I’m looking for a larger size Betta Fish, it seems like Pet Smart only have small male ones do you know…….

Where I can buy large Betta Male Fish from?
Maybe about this size

The ones at Petsmart are usually only a few months old. They will grow, don’t worry.

I have only females, but some have stayed only an inch and a half or so, but I have two that are nearly 3 inches long and sooo beefy-looking. Real tough! Here’s a picture of the two of them playing in the filter bubbles together: http://www.meowingdog.net/albums/album36/BettaBittyAndTeal02.jpg

Now, those two that got really big are almost 2 yrs old and live together in a 35 gallon tank (with other fish.) All my other females are sharing 10 gallon tanks and none are much bigger than 2 inches. Coincidence? Maybe, but I would hazard a guess that having so much more room convinced my giant two to get bigger than they might have otherwise.

Now, if you REALLY want a truly giant betta (they breed them to get as large as 4-6″ at adulthood!!) you can find them once in a while on www.aquabid.com — they’re rather rare, and generally very expensive though. The only one up for bid right now is this stud: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwbettashmp&1202143850 who’s got an asking price of $75 on him, and that’s before you pay the shipping and US quarantine transhipper fees, which can total up to more than $50. So, yeah, that’s only if you’re really serious about wanting this fish and are willing and ready to take CARE of it so you don’t kill off a $150 fish in a week.

EDIT: Bettas can easily live 5 yrs or more — a friend of mine personally lost a betta at the age of 7. People who tell you they don’t live long (a year or two is a long time?) are people who just don’t know how to keep them alive.

For Sale: Pastel Dragon Halfmoon Betta Male (Siamese Fighting Fish)
