Betta Fish Kissing
Betta And Goldfish With Tropical Fishes?

I have a 23 established tropical fish tank that consists of; 2 Medium Size Kissing Fish, 2 Purple Parrot Fish, 2 Rainbow Fish, and 2 Glass Fish. Anywho…. I am going home for the Holidays (military family) and was wondering if it was okay to put my 1 Goldfish and my 1 Male Betta in with the Tropical Fish?

Firstly a Betta IS a tropical fish, and if by 23 you mean 23 gallon it’s massively overcrowded and you should be removing things, not adding them.

The Kissing Gourami pair needs more like a 65-75 gallon, the purple Parrot Fish I assume are Blood Parrot Cichlids, and purple means they’ve been dyed, again need 55 gallons plus. Rainbowfish – what species? Glass fish – do you mean Glass Catfish or something else?

The Goldfish needs it’s own tank – if it’s a fancy 20-25 gallons over filtered, if it’s a common 35-55 gallons minimum depending on current size, once adult needs 55 gallons plus or a pond.

The Betta will NOT “kill everything”, in fact if you put it in that community it would probably get killed by the two Kissing Gouramis. Bettas are more likely to end up the victim. They need a minimum of a 5 gallon filtered, heated, cycled tank.
