Betta Fish Gender
Betta Fish Gender

another question about betta fish?
those who answered my previous question, thanks so much it completely told me what my betta’s gender is.
its male.
so new question:
alright thanks to all for your answers, i definately have a male.
i wanna get him a friend, so would it be better to go get him a female beta to put in the same tank, or a different little fish? whats your best suggestion for a friend in the same tank?
Okay so what are some suggestions for a DIFFERENT breed of fish that would go good with him?
Wonderful, I’m glad I could be of help!
The answer to your new question is both ‘yes’ and ‘no’
Your male beta can live with a female beta and he will not kill her…however…he will spend 90% of his waking hours chasing after her in the tank trying to breed!
This isn’t good for either of your fish…the female is going to get tired, and it’s not that great for your male fish to be showing ALL day.
You are actually best to provide your beta with a tropical fish, live breeding pal. IT MUST BE A BREED WITH A NON-FAN TAIL! He will chew it right off if you place a male guppy with him.
Also, if you get an aggressive fish, he could harm your beta, so you need a happy medium.
Something about the same size, a live-bearer, and a smaller tail will work out fine. A Molly would be an ideal match.
And in response to Mrs. Michelle’s criticism, her female beta likely died from exhaustion…which was my main point. It’s not good for the fish, and stress always = dead fish.
