Betta Fish Food Ingredients

Is this stuff okay to feed to fry?

I was at petco buying my bird some food the other day, and came across something I decided I’d try. I found a powdery fish food that claims to be good for newborn fry. Well, I’m planning on breeding my betta soon so I decided I might as well buy it. I looked at the packaging, found a package of quality betta pellets and compared the ingredients. The baby powder has more protein than the betta food, and everything.

It’s also Hikari brand, and I’ve been told they are one of the best makers of artificial foods for fish.

Would this work to feed newborn betta fry? I still plan on feeding them egg yolks or whatever until they are old enough for baby brine shrimp (I have heard live culture is a pain so I’m not even going to attempt it).

Apparently you aren’t allowed to have links to the Hikari website on your questions, so I guess just google “Hikari First Bites” it should be the top of the search bar. Thanks!

If they will eat this then go for it. Be sure not to feed them until they are free swimming. The only thing is that betta fry tens to lean more toward live foods because it attracts their attention more. Be careful of overfeeding with this product because the granules are so tiny it is VERY easy to put far to much into the tank. Try a tiny amount at first to see if they will accept it. Also… as they grow you could try feeding frozen baby brine shrimp. I tried that today with some older fry (not bettas) and they absolutely loved it! I have experience with the Hikari first bites. I feed it to molly and platty fry. I like this product for fry.
