Betta Fish Epsom Salt Bath
Betta Fish Epsom Salt Bath
Feeding problems in betta fish?
My betta has been getting constipated for a while, or whatever it is that makes him float at the top of the water on his side. I tried giving him the pea and he won’t eat it. I only give him an epsom salt bath after about a week of not eating anything and within a day he’ll be swimming just fine. This happens after I feed him every single time. what’s wrong with him?
It seems like he has been having recurring swim bladder issues? How much food, how frequent are the feedings, and what kind of foods?
The food probably swells up in his stomach. A few pellets should be more than sufficient at each feeding, and feedings should take place less than four times a day. Try pellet foods (the Hikari brand is recommended by many betta owners) if that is not already in his diet, and pre-soaking them for ten minutes or longer in tank water if they already are. Bloodworms should be given very rarely if that is part of his diet.
The pea is a very good remedy for constipation. Try fasting him again, then give him a pea first thing. Showing a mirror to him and encouraging him to flare may also work. Also, the website below is excellent for further reading in swim bladder problems:
