Betta Fish Behavior Bowl

Betta Fish Behavior Bowl

Is this normal Betta fish behavior?

I just got a betta fish yesterday and I put him in a fish bowl with rocks and a fake plant. All he basically does is lay on the rocks or stays still in one spot. Is this normal and should I buy a fish tank for him instead of using a fish bowl.

Most likely he is just a little stressed from being placed in a new environment. Give him a few days to adjust and he should be fine. He probably won’t eat for a couple of days, so don’t get worried if this happens.
I would buy a larger tank for him. Bigger is always better when it comes to fish keeping. They will thrive in a filtered, heated tank but, they can survive in a bowl as long as you do proper maintenance weekly. You should change out his water at least 3 times a week when he is in a bowl. This should prevent fin rot and keep him healthy.
I house one male in a 36 gallon community tank with other tropicals. I also have one in a 20 gallon, and then I keep my fry in jars and vases until they get a certain size. All fish should have filtration unless you do water changes like I specified above.
Betta’s need a varied diet of flakes and pellets made just for them. Also you should feed them bloodworms and brine shrimp as treats a few times a week. When you place him in a larger, heated and filtered tank you will see the true beauty of your Betta.
