Quick cure for betta fish questions?
I just turned on my fish’s tank light an hour ago (hot weather has subsided a bit) and noticed that my male betta has a pretty good sized, grey/white wool-cotton looking stubstance on the top of his head trailing a little down his back. There’s also white spots on his sides. He’s swimming around alot, but every so often rests on the colosseum decoration in the tank.
I researched it, thought that it was Ich, and went to petco to buy that quick cure treatment.
I just read the whole packaging and noticed a picture of a fish with something called protozoan parasites which looks more like what my betta has.
The directions say that I should add 1 drop per gallon daily. So should I add 10 drops for a ten gallon tank? (Just trying to be careful) And do I do it with the fish in the aquarium or should I take him out? Should I clean the tank again before I add the drops? I did a full tank cleaning a couple of days ago.
Change it now, treat with the ten drops, make sure to remove the carbon and slowly increase the temp to around 84-86 degrees. Whether it’s the Ich or another parasite, the higher temp and the quick cure should work just fine. The higher temp will sped up the parasites life cycle and help you cycle through this in a matter of days rather than weeks.
Do you have any freshwater aquarium salt? If you can, get some. This helps relieve stress, increases the slime coat, helps prevent secondary infections and helps kill the free swimming stage of the parasite.
