Betta Fish Aquarium Care
Betta Fish Aquarium Care
My poor betta fish- please help if you care!!!?

I have 4 female betta fishes who live in that cramped up little cups. I moved them to these 4 little cute designer homes. Not until recently did i realize how cruel that is- they’re not even a gallon each! So i read about the “pecking order”. I want to get 4 seperate tanks, and not risk the chance of them getting shredded. Can i get a gallon tank each? or is 2 more appropriate? Also- they all have this musty, dark ugly color on their heads with copper-colored spots on them. I think it may be velvet. Can i use sea salt instead of aquarium salt? It says ” high quality meddeterenean sea salt”. I feed them freeze dried bloodworms and occasionally some pellets, and once a week a fourth of a pea. Am i caring for them correctly? Oh, please help and answer as many questions as possible!!!

2 gallons is better than ,1 but 1 gallon is better than a cup. so whatever you can provide for them is great! (5 gallons would be wonderful but where will you keep all of them?)

do not use sea salt! you want to use aquarium safe salt meant for freshwater and brackish water tanks.

do you have heaters on these tanks? a healthy home for a betta is usually 75F to 80F (give or take a few degrees) but more importantly the temp should not be fluctuating as it can during a day without a heater. even a couple degrees up and down in a day can stress your betta, making them more susceptible to disease and cause digestion problems.

as far as feeding your girls, sounds like they have a nice varied diet… but let them skip a meal once in a while too. just in case you are over feeding them. remember that they have tiny stomachs (think the size of their eye) and those pellets expand!

as far as the “velvet” goes.. i’ve never seen it in person before, but found a really good link with pictures… (1st link) does it look like what the loach pictured has? (you can zoom in on the pic if you click on it!)

there’s treatments listed on both links if you think that’s what your fish have

good luck!
