Betta Fish Water Plants

How would I put a plant in my Betta fish bowl?
I just got a Betta fish and the water gets dirty very fast. I was told today that if I put a plant in the bowl, it will feed the fish and keep the water clean. How would I put the plant in though? And which plant should I use. I was told either a peace water lily or chinese evergreen. Thank youuu! (:
The plant will not solve anything. That plant-betta ecosystem thing is a terrible myth that sadly leads to many betta deaths. Here are some betta facts you need to know:
- they are tropical fish and should be kept in temperatures between 78 and 82F. In less, they are susceptible to disease and will not be nearly as healthy, active or happy.
- they do need a filter. Without one, you need to do a 25% water change every day or every second day, and a 100% change once a week. With one, you can do a 25% change once or twice a week.
- they enjoy having lots of space to swim. You don’t need to splash out on a massively expensive tank, but a 3 gallon tank would be lovely, and 5 gallons would mean both less work for you and more fun for your fish.
- bettas are carnivores and will not eat plants. They need meaty betta pellets, like Hikari Biogold, with bloodworms for treats.
- plants will not keep the water clean. They help consume certain fish by-products, but they will not replace a filter or water changes and will not make much difference in a bowl.
For a happy betta that will live a long, healthy life, you need:
- a 3-5 gallon tank (the bigger the better)
- a heater
- a filter
- a good diet
Here is a kit that I saw on the Walmart site that looks really excellent and is a very good price. A betta will be very happy and healthy in here! You will be able to keep some basic aquatic plants, like java fern and anubias, which bettas love to swim through and rest in.

Good luck with your betta! Keep him healthy and he will reward you with bright colours, vigorous activity and a long, healthy life. Plus you will get to see the fun personalities that endear these little fish to their owners so much.
